The Health Economist will engage with stakeholders from across the organization to develop sophisticated analytics to provide information, insights and BI (Business Intelligence) solutions that contribute to sound strategic planning, decision-making, goal setting, and effective performance measurement. This is a senior role that requires advanced understanding of the healthcare domain, technical data manipulation and analytic development skills. The role serves as mentor to others in the Analytics Organization and takes the lead role in critical projects and initiatives. Analyses will address cost and utilization trends, projected and actual return on investment, risk models, forecasting, and scenario rendering.

The Health Economist collaborates with both internal stakeholders and external clients (e.g., health plan actuaries) to support business development (e.g., payer) and other related initiatives. This role requires an individual who can communicate clearly in presentations and reports about analytic methods and results and easily engages with technical staff and laypersons, as well as present to senior executives.

We are looking for an individual who can see the "big picture" but is also willing to roll up their sleeves to continuously improve every detail of our cost and actuarial analyses. The ideal candidate will have experience working as a health economist or actuary at a health plan or health system. Startup experience is a plus, but not a must.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Designs internal and external ROI analyses that align with enterprise research goals
  • Performs financial forecasting and scenario modeling to assess new payment models that support business initiatives
  • Provides actuarial advice to senior leaders about current and new programs.
  • Develops benchmarks and baselines for use in performance and market assessments
  • Be an internal SME to various departments in improving their quantification of outcome metrics

What We’re Looking For

  • Working knowledge of medical claims, billing practices and health insurance requirements
  • Proficient in database querying tools and strong data management skills
  • Strong understanding of data systems and sources and how it impacts the data available
  • Experience in building forecasting models and conducting budget impact analysis
  • Ability to lead and oversee several projects across departments effectively
  • Works effectively with departments on acquiring data, data cleaning, analyzing data, and communicating results
  • Has a bias for (purposeful) action and finds creative ways around problems.
  • Can articulate a vision to teams, collaborate with cross-org stakeholders, deliver feedback, and everything in between.
  • Efficient with their and other employees’ time

  • Constantly honing their craft, and up to date on business landscape and best practices.
  • Experience in digital health, a plus



Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in as Health Economist, preferably with a large-scale payer or equivalent solution provider
  • Knowledge of industry leading actuarial, forecasting, and other econometric practices
  • Proficient in database querying tools and strong data management skills. Strong understanding of data systems and sources and how it impacts the data available

  • Working knowledge of medical claims, billing practices and health insurance requirements

  • Experience in building forecasting models and conducting budget impact analysis

  • Knowledge of actuarial landscapes of payers, the value metrics they use, principal calculation methods and the like
  • Knowledge of related government regulatory guidelines and how they impact the measurement of outcomes
  • Demonstrated consulting skills, with change management concepts and strategies, including communication, culture change and performance measurement system design
  • Ever curious and always eager to take on the next ‘harder’ thing
  • Advanced degree in quantitative/relevant field such as Statistics, Operational Research, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science
